FACILITATED WORKING SESSION

Creating an effective leadership team development plan!

The purpose of the facilitated working session is to help the leadership team use a structured discussion to formulate the core concept of its development plan effectively, engagingly and collaboratively. The entire session focuses on creating a practical development plan that will support the successful achievement of business objectives.

Session structure:

  • Duration: 4 hours.
  • Format: Online or in person.
  • Participants: A leadership team operating as an organisational unit. The maximum number of participants is 12. For larger groups, a longer session would be required.

Session process:

1. Preparation before the session:

The team members discuss and define 3–5 key business objectives or priorities that will form the foundation of the team development plan. These objectives are submitted to the facilitator two days before the working session.

Participants are also provided with a tool for gathering ideas and expectations from key stakeholders, such as the team leader or colleagues. These insights are then integrated into the working session.

2. Structure of the working session:

• Analysis: The team discusses what current business realities and the objectives for the coming year require from them.

• Exploration: The team examines what it already has, what is missing and what risks may arise. The business functions, the leadership team and the teams they lead are assessed.

• Development priorities: The most important development priorities that will help achieve the desired results are identified.

• Development plan: A detailed plan is created, covering specific actions: what needs to be done, how and when it should be done, and who will be responsible.

Results:

• The team leaves the session with an aligned development plan.

• During the session, the facilitator provides additional expert insights and ideas. These may include observations about existing gaps or recommendations that would be worth exploring further.

The facilitated working session methodology helps leadership teams focus on the most important business development objectives, identify potential risks and create a clear action plan that will support their success.
